AppliedAISystems
A personal assistant that runs continuously, holds context across sessions, and acts on its own schedule — not a chat window that forgets you the moment you close it. This is the system I use daily, and the main lesson has been that reliability matters far more than capability.
iThe problem
An assistant that forgets everything between sessions is not an assistant — it is a search box with extra steps.
Automations that fail silently are worse than automations that do not exist, because you keep trusting them after they stop working.
Capability is easy to add and hard to make dependable; most assistants die of unreliability, not of insufficient features.
iiThe approach
Durable memory on disk: curated long-term notes plus daily logs, so context survives a restart instead of living in a context window.
Scheduled work through a real scheduler rather than a model asked to wait — reminders and recurring jobs are engine-level, not promises.
Isolated execution for background tasks so a long-running job cannot stall the interactive conversation.
Every scheduled job reports its own outcome, which turns silent failure into a visible signal.
iiiWhat it produces
Runs unattended around the clock, handling digests, financial research, monitoring and scheduled briefings.
Continuity across sessions: decisions made weeks ago are still visible in today's behaviour.
The failure mode I designed against is the one I learned to fear — a job that stops working and says nothing.
